Continual Excellence and Service to the Australasian Martial Arts Community
Sensei Nick Wyborn is a nationally and internationally qualified Self-Defence Instructor with over 27 years of Martial Arts experience. As a result, he has obtained Black Belts in various styles and systems, as well as dozens of various instructor accreditations. Nick is a former NSW Police Officer, Former Correctional Officer, and Security Trainer with 20 years’ frontline experience.
Since 2020 Nick has been a community partner for White Ribbon Australia, and has been diligently working with his local community to end men’s violence against women and children. He is also a Peer Support Officer at ‘The Newcastle Beacon’, a not-for-profit organisation that supports first responders, emergency department personnel, veterans and their families in Newcastle and the Hunter.
Nick is a published author of the book ‘Defensive Tactics for Security Professionals; a comprehensive guide for staying safe in the security industry, which was well received. In 2021 Nick was invited onto the Managing Violence Podcast with host Joe Saunders to speak about his book.
In 2023 Nick was inducted into the Federation of Israeli Martial Arts Hall of Fame as ‘Instructor of the Year’.
In addition to running his Martial Arts school ‘Hunter Valley Combative’, Nick is employed as an Emergency Services Officer, Retained Firefighter with Fire & Rescue NSW. He occasionally trains people in First Aid within the VET sector, and volunteers with his local RFS Brigade.
When he is not working or teaching, he likes to play golf, read and spend time with his friends and family.
