Ying Zheng was born in Hangzhou, China, in 1954. She is a long‑standing member of the Chinese Martial Arts Association and holds numerous senior appointments across multiple martial arts organisations. She is a National Grade One Referee, a Super Referee of Wushu, and a second‑generation successor of Huaiyuan Taijiquan. She also serves as a member of the Hangzhou Martial Arts Association, Deputy President of the Jiangsu Shuyang Huaiyuan Taijiquan Association, Consultant to the Sanmenxia Martial Arts Association in Henan Province, and Deputy Director of the Referee Committee of the Shangcheng District Martial Arts Association in Hangzhou. In addition, she is part of the Taijiquan Expert Review Group of the Jianggan District Martial Arts Association.

Ying Zheng is the Head Coach of the Hangzhou Wolong Martial Arts Team and the Team Leader of the Zhejiang Province Esperanto Art Ensemble Martial Arts Team. In 2009, she served as Director of the Publicity and Planning Department and Foreign Affairs Chief Coach at the Huaiyuan Taijiquan Training Center at Tangsha Stadium in Dongguan, Guangdong Province. She has acted as a referee and chief referee at numerous international traditional martial arts competitions, including serving as a specially invited referee for the Hong Kong International Martial Arts Festival and Chief Referee for the Wen County Taijiquan Games in Henan. Over her career, she has taught students from more than 20 countries.

Her contributions have been widely recognised. She has been selected multiple times as an Outstanding Referee and Advanced Worker, and one of her academic papers received an Excellence Award at a traditional martial arts theory exchange meeting and was subsequently published. She was included in the Dictionary of Contemporary Traditional Martial Arts Figures (2008) and China Taijiquan Celebrities (2009).

Ying Zheng began her martial arts training at the age of eight under Jizhong Huang, a renowned boxer from Shandong. She later studied various Shaolin Kung Fu systems under several famous masters. She is skilled in Shaolin Boxing, Shaolin Sword, and a wide range of traditional weapons, including knives, as well as Taijiquan and Taiji Sword.

Her competitive achievements include:

  • Three gold medals and three silver medals at the Zhejiang Province International Traditional Martial Arts Games and the Zhejiang Province First Annual Club Games
  • Four gold medals at the National Traditional Martial Arts Games
  • Multiple individual first and second prizes, and team first, second, and third prizes at provincial, municipal, and large‑scale martial arts competitions

Her students have collectively won more than one hundred gold, silver, and bronze medals across major events.

Ying Zheng has been featured in numerous Chinese newspapers, foreign‑language magazines, and tourism publications. Zhejiang Television’s International Department produced a 45‑minute documentary titled “A Woman Coach and Her Foreign Students,” which was broadcast both in China and internationally. She has also been featured in news segments on Hangzhou Television’s international channel.
