Martial Artist of the Year – Taekwondo NZ
Master Evan Davidson completed 8 years Military Service with the New Zealand Army from 1969 to 1977. He then joined the New Zealand Police and completed 30 years Service (1977 to 2007) retiring in August 2007.
He is currently employed part time as an administrator with the Te Awamutu Safer Community Charitable Trust.
His ITF Taekwon-Do training began in 1972 whilst stationed in Singapore with the NZ Army training at the Chong Pang village Do jang and HMS Terror Navy Base Do Jang. He also trained at the Johore Bahru Taekwon-Do School in Malaysia.
He was promoted to 1st Dan Black Belt in September 1973 by ITF Examiner Mr. Lee Sung Soo.
On his return to New Zealand he established Taekwon-Do Schools in the suburbs of Miramar and Khandallah in Wellington. He later transferred to Te Awamutu with the NZ Police and subsequently opened ITF Taekwon-Do schools in the towns of Te Awamutu and Cambridge.
He became President of the New Zealand National Taekwon-Do Body (ITFNZ) in 2004 and he has attended and officiated at three ITF World Championships. (Dortmund-Germany 2005, Quebec-Canada 2007 and Mar Del Plata-Argentina 2009)
Master Davidson is currently Chair of the ITF Taekwon-Do Ethics and Discipline committee.
Master Davidson is committed to the late General Choi’s original and authentic Taekwon-Do, its philosophy and teachings. He is dedicated to ensuring that the true ITF Taekwon-Do is practiced and spread throughout New Zealand, and also to the rest of the World, under the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF).
As Chair of the ITF Ethics and Discipline Committee, he undertakes all that is required to support and assist the ITF in whatever endeavour and direction they take according to their democratic processes. He sees all nations, it’s peoples and cultures regardless of ideology coming together in trust and freedom under the ITF Taekwon-Do banner to build a more peaceful world.
