Inducted into the W.K.U.H.O.F. for 2008
Instructor of the Year – Karate – QLD

Born on 25th September, 1971, in Victoria, Shihan Kerrie Mee moved to the Gold Coast with her family in 1979 and began her martial arts training with tae kwon do in 1987. In 1992 she commenced training karate-do with Hanshi Pat McKean (9th dan), received her Shodan Ho (provisional black belt) in 1997 and began teaching part-time in the same year. Shihan Kerrie Mee is the chief instructor of Kenkokan Karate-do on the Gold Coast, has been teaching full-time since 2001 and is a 4th degree black belt.

Kerrie has competed in numerous tournaments, both Koshiki (safety contact) and non-contact. To this day, she remains unbeaten in Koshiki Kumite at club, inter-club, state and national levels. She has won 5 National Titles in Koshiki Kumite and 1 National Kata Title. Since retiring from competition in 2002, due to serious injury sustained in her final tournament, Kerrie has been actively involved in refereeing and officiating tournaments, and coaching the students. In 2006 she was awarded Most Outstanding Martial Artist for her personal sacrifices and contributions to the Australasian Martial Arts Community by Shihan Gary Alexander (10th Dan).

Kerrie is also graded to 3rd Dan by Hanshi Masayuki Kukan Hisataka (9th Dan) in World Koshiki Karate-do, Ist dan by Seishinkan in Iaido and 1st Dan by Soke Shiokawa (10th Dan) in Tanjo. She has travelled throughout Australia and has twice been to Japan for intensive martial arts training. She is proficient with the weapons of arnis, tanjo, bo, bokken, katana, sai and nunchaku. Her weapon of choice is the bo.

Since the induction of her teacher Hanshi Pat McKean to AMAHOF in 2003, Kerrie has befriended and trained with many of the AMAHOF inductees.

The Kenkokan organisation promotes the martial art of karate and self defense, to teach the student both physical and mental discipline. Hence a great deal of emphasis is put on achieving not only flexibility and aerobic fitness, but also learning to relate to a strict set of moral values which are often forgotten in today’s society. Kenkokan Karate-do is based on traditional methods as well as scientific and safe principles.

Kerrie trains regularly with her students and gets to know all students and their families personally. She instigated the Tiny Tigers program within Kenkokan Karate-do in 2003 and dedicates herself to the personal development and welfare of the students. Her current occupation is as an accountant and martial arts instructor.
