Kyoshi Dennis Wayne Apted was born on 28th April 1961 in Melbourne, Victoria. At the age of two he moved to Tasmania with my parents.

He started martial arts in 1981 at the age of 20 in San Chi Kai under Mal Lomax in Launceston. Received his first black belt July 1983. In 1985 he trained in Hong Kong in lama kung fu under Grand Master William Lo Wai Keung. Since then he has been training in Lama under Mal Lomax. In the Launceston area he was teaching San Chi Kai, kick-boxing and lama classes. In Launceston he shared the training hall with the amateur boxing club, where they help each over with training methods and held kick-boxing demonstration at boxing matches. He also took local sports clubs for alternative training.

In 1996 he move to the Gold Coast with his wife and three children where he obtained his fifth degree under Mal Lomax in May 2004. Over the years he has been encouraged to explore his martial arts under Mal Lomax freestyle , which in turn let him train with and meet a lot of Martial artists. At the moment his learning and teaching has been enhanced with Kaicho Mal Lomax, Kyoshi Zlatko Peter Kitak and Renshi John Hunt, all living on the Gold Coast.
