Glen’s martial arts experiences have enabled him to train with many noted and experienced martial artists adding considerable depth to his understanding of many martial arts systems. His brother Martin Gardiner 9th Degree Cacoy Doce Pares and 6th Degree Mu Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do and John Whipp 7th Degree Judo Federation, 7th Degree Jujitsu, 6th Degree Kodokan Judo and Gordon Armstrong 5th Degree Zen Goshu Goshin Jutsu and 3rd Degree IBF Batto Do Federation Nakamura Ryu had a pivotal influence in his development. He qualified as a Military Unarmed Combat (MUC) Instructor training Australian Army units throughout Australia and members of specialist Australian policing organizations. From 1990-1998 Glen instructed on nearly every MUC Exponent and Instructor course conducted by the Australian Army in Australia. In that time he met some of the most respected names in Australian MUC including Mr. Ken “Blue” Curran, Denis Gaskell, Greg Mawkes, his teacher John Whipp, and many more. Glen teaches Zen Goshu Goshin Jutsu, IBF Batto Do, and Cacoy Doce Pares Arnis/Eskrima.

In addition Glen has supported Indonesian Police security management training initiatives instructing on numerous National Police security management courses for several years. He has also been responsible for the project management and delivery of specialized training initiatives for the Australian Defense Force and several Australian Police organizations and has been integral in the development of accredited training programs related to Voluntary Principles of Human Rights and Security in Indonesia. He has also been involved in developing peace development initiatives for government sponsors supporting the government of Timor Lesete in the area of martial and ritual arts gangs.

He has professional security and consulting experience in South East Asia, the South Pacific, and Australia supporting clients in medium- and high-risk security environments working extensively in security and management consultancy roles across a wide range of business sectors for multinational organizations, international agencies and embassies within the region.and has lived and worked in Indonesia for nine years.

Glen is a BS Security graduate from Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia; he holds a Diploma, Personnel Management from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia He also has formal training and assessment qualifications recognized by Australian Government Training Authorities. He graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Australia.

1983

Began training Rhee Tae Kwon Do with John Ivanov Sensei, Judo with John Whipp Sensei, Okinawan Go Ju Karate and Japanese and Okinawan weaponry including sword with Bryson Keenan and Gordon “Jock” Armstrong Sensei, Australian Style Tae Kwon Do with Chris Maskiel Sensei, Modern Arnis with Martin Gardiner Sensei (Martin is Glens older brother).

I Began training Doce Pares Arnis with Shane Finnigan Sensei (Shane was a student of Martin Gardiner Sensei)

1984 Started training Wing Chun Kung Fu with Sifu Tony De Costa and Tai Chi Chuan with Sifu Randal Waddell.

Obtained 1st degree black belt Australian Style Tae Kwon Do.

Graded 1st degree black belt Okinawan Go Ju Karate.

1985 Completed MUC Exponents Course at 92 MP Platoon in Townsville Australia.

Started competing in tournaments in the Townsville region.

Graded 1st degree black belt Doce Pares Arnis Eskrima.

Conducted Arnis Eskrima seminars at Mt Isa Sikaran Philippine karate club meeting

1986 John Harris Sensei.

Trained with Benny “The Jet” Urqidez and Bill “Super Foot” Wallace, trained with
Anthony Kleeman Sensei (Anthony was a student of Martin Gardiner Sensei).

Graded 2nd degree black belt Doce Pares awarded personally by Grand Master

1987 Cacoy Canete, graded Senior Instructor Black Eagle Arnis under Grand Master Carlos Navarro.

Conducted martial arts seminars in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Mt Isa.

Started training with David Briggs Muy Thai and boxing instructor, started training
Aikido, trained with Mark Haseman Sensei in Jujitsu and his son Chris Haseman

1988 Sensei, studied Olympic wrestling with Mr. Stiven Kuss, Northern Style Shaolin, Paukua Kung Fu and Dan Inosanto’s kali system with Sifu Dean Lawler later training with Inosanto Sensei, trained Shorinji Kempo Karate part of the full contact Koshiki organization.

Graded 4th degree black belt Doce Pares.

1989 Began training Wing Chun and Bag Wha with Sifu David Crook in Canberra.

Qualified B Class MUC Instructor at the 1st Battalion the Royal Australian Regiment.

Accredited Sports Coach Level 1 and 2 sponsored by the Australian Institute of Sport.

1990 Learned Balisong Butterfly Knife from Jesse Diestro Sensei, Sikaran Philippine Karate, Met and trained with Vincent Palumbo Sensei (Vince was a student of Martin Gardiner Sensei)
Registered instructor World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF).
1991 Trained Hokushin Shinoh Ryu Japanese swordsmanship with Alex Nowachatko Sensei.

Conducted seminars in Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia.

1992 Graded 4th degree black belt Three Style Tae Kwon Do with the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTKDF).
1993 Graded 5th degree black belt Doce Pares.

Graded 2nd degree black belt Goshin Jutsu.

1994 Posted Second in Command (21C) Military Unarmed Combat Training Wing 11 Training Group Lavarack Barracks Townsville, commanded by Major John Whipp.
1995 Met and trained with Tom Goldsworthy Sensei, 4th degree Goshin Jutsu.

Posted Headquarters staff, 7th Task Force Enoggera Barracks Brisbane, as Liaison Officer developing MUC in the Task Force and supporting other military and police units in Australia.

1996 Worked as a security consultant in Mindanao Southern Philippines and competed in Arnis tournaments while training Doce Pares with students of Grand Master Mumoy Canete, Cacoy’s older brother.
1997 Continued Training.Qualified A Class MUC Instructor at Headquarters 7th Task Force.
1998 Qualified Certificate IV Category – 2 Workplace Training and Assessment.
1999 Continued Training in Indonesia.
2000 Continued Training in Indonesia.

Traveled to the USA meeting Anthony Kleeman Sensei in L.A. running several

2001 seminars. Maintained personal training while in Indonesia.
2002 Continued training in Indonesia.
2003 Continued training in Indonesia. Traveled to the USA training Doce Pares, grappling and open hand with local martial artists in Seattle Washington State.
2004 Continued training in Indonesia.
2005 Continued Training in Indonesia. Graded 3rd degree black belt Goshin Jutsu, established the Combined Martial Arts Academy (CMAA) in Jakarta Indonesia. Trained a team from Indonesia to fight in the Cacoy Doce Pares World Federation
2006 (CDP WF) 2006 World stick fighting Championship participating as the team captain and coach while also competing. The team consisting of 7 competitors won 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze in the sparring divisions of the competition. Glen personally won 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze after being absent from the ring for a period of ten years.

Graded 6th degree black belt in the CDP WF system by Grand Master Cacoy Canete.

Trained the Indonesian team who fielded 27 competitors for the 2007 Cacoy Doce

2007 Pares World Federation (CDP WF) World Stickfighting Championship, the team won a total of 5 Gold, 15 Silver, and 16 Bronze medals in the event.

Promoted and raised sponsorship for the CDP WF World Championship hosting the event in Jakarta Indonesia with representation from 11 countries, was the event Tournament Director for the event.

Hosted the Australian Ambassador, Polish Ambassador, Head of the Indonesian National Police and other Diplomatic and Embassy, Indonesian Government, Military and Multinational Corporate Sector representatives during the CDP WF World Championship.

The senior advisory consultant and Team Leader for the Royal Norwegian Embassy initiative for the development of a sustainable aid program to assist youth and sport in Timor Leste primarily in the area of Martial Arts Groups (MAG’s).
